Let's make the Netherlands bigger

Because the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, stichting Samenwerking Zuid-Limburg (foundation Cooperation Zuid-Limburg) will soon be established. This foundation will include municipalities as well as private and public organizations. Thanks to this cooperation and the broad support it generates, we will be able to capitalize even better on opportunities for the region and thus strengthen our region. We can lobby more effectively in The Hague and work together to achieve the ambitions set out in the so called Agenda Zuid-Limburg. South Limburg is a region to be reckoned with. A region where, in our view, there is local, regional, and international cooperation. And where there are no boundaries.

Effectively working together

Samenwerking Zuid-Limburg is a practical and efficient platform where various national and provincial programmes and initiatives can find their place. Regio Deal Zuid-Limburg (4th and 6th tranche) and Nationaal Programma Vitale Regio's (National Programme Vital Regions) are the first programmes to be taken under its wing. Other programmes that join use the same organisation and thus the same network and broad knowledge of the region. Thanks to the foundation, much smarter and more targeted work is done in the region.

Projects

Within our Regio Deal Zuid-Limburg programme, we are investing EUR 60 million in, as yet, 24 different projects. Each project has specific objectives. But all focus to a greater or lesser extent on (circular) economic growth, strengthening nature and liveability and achieving prosperity and well-being for all.

Community approach Vallisveld

Vallisveld's success is down to residents. Laura Cruts, strategist at Vaals municipality, is sure of that. She, together with partners Envida (healthcare institution) and Krijtland Wonen (housing association), rang 500 doors in the neighbourhood two years ago, 149 of which opened wide. Read more about their personalised approach and working with frontrunners and a neighbourhood liaison officer (Dutch article). Want to know more about the project? Click on the link opposite.

Workspace Textiel Innovatie Maastricht

When most people think of knitting, they still think of two knitting needles. However, those days are far behind us. Indeed, at circular workspace Textiel Innovatie Maastricht (TIM), thanks to an investment from Regio Deal Zuid-Limburg, there is an advanced, automated knitting machine with 1,175 needles that can knit 3D without producing residual waste. Borderless Bocage landscape

The very special so called Bocage landscape in our region is under pressure. This is due to increasing and extreme weather conditions, such as floods and drought, and the loss of rare flora and fauna. Agricultural and intensive recreational use are also straining the landscape. To solve these challenges, municipalities on both sides of the border are working together.
