Workspace Circular Textile
The garment industry is currently one of the most polluting industries in the world. Due to the almost non-recyclable raw materials, the chemicals used during production as well as the waste afterwards. Workspace Circular Textile Maastricht, officially opened at March 28, 2025, therefore actively focuses on research, development and production of recycled or bio-based clothing.
At this place, people think about how garments can be made from existing textile raw materials or from animal or vegetable (biobased) and thus reusable materials. The workspace also focuses on repair and education. Workshops, knowledge sessions and fashion shows are organised for both experts and the public. To generate awareness. And to learn about the sustainable effect of choosing recycled or bio-based clothing.
Workspace Circular Textile consists of the following three pillars:
- A studio: a place of production using shared machines to weave or spin.
- Buy and repair: a place to sell circular textiles and repair clothes.
- Research and Development: a place where information on circular fashion is provided, knowledge is shared and workshops are organised.
The workspace is an important link between education, science, industry and young designers, among others. Industry will test prototypes on jointly acquired machines here, for example, before investing big. Partly thanks to a contribution from Regio Deal Zuid-Limburg, a computer-controlled 3D knitting machine was purchased. With this, not only clothes but also shoes and even buildings can be made.
