Strong and healthy communities
Glanerbrook en Burgemeester Damenpark
The Sportpark Glanerbrook & Burgemeester Damenpark project is not just a connecting people and exercise stimulation programme. These locations are also breeding grounds for talent development, recreational sports and positive health. Accessible to all. Both physically and financially. Thanks to good programming, better use and an open character of the surroundings, we also inspire people who do not yet play sports or recreate to come. And to work-out.
Glanerbrook will be converted into a versatile and energy-neutral sports complex. The plan for Burgemeester Damenpark aims to preserve the tree structure as much as possible and improve the quality of the public space. The entire site will have park-like, biodiverse and high-quality planting to suit today's climate and needs. Thus, the park will be made ready to cope with more extreme weather and will have different types of plants and therefore animals. Sports and exercise equipment will also be installed in the park. And more facilities will be created such as a 3-metre-wide kilometre path for rollerblading and running, a 100-metre sprint track and a street hockey pitch. It is all freely accessible to everyone. Both locations will soon challenge both local and (eu)regional athletes and recreationists to come and exercise actively or play intensive sports. To meet and relax. And above all to enjoy.
Meanwhile, the ice hall and 50-metre competition pool have been completed and the sports halls renovated. These will be open to visitors before the summer. Once they are open, the old swimming pool and leisure pools will close for renovation. The cycling track will be resurfaced and the outdoor ice rink will be roofed. A total of 6,000 solar panels will be installed on all roofs. These will be connected to their own battery, generating their own energy and allowing visitors to charge their electric cars. Work on Burgemeester Damenpark will also start in spring 2025. Everything should be ready in 2026. That is when the total completion of the entire project is planned.
