Enhancing unique landscape
Gateway to Heuvelland
The Gateway to Heuvelland project will connect two Natura 2000 areas, the Bemelberg-Schiepersberg and the Savelsbos. This is done by breaking the existing north-south barrier, the provincial road N278, for people and animals.
We will invest in:
- Making the area more green, enhancing cultural history and making it sustainable.
- Promoting the nature network by creating sustainable (ecological) connections and nature development.
- Enhancing biodiversity. So focusing on more diverse plants and animals.
- Reducing nitrogen.
- Improving water quality.
- Improving access to the area for residential, commercial and recreational traffic.
- Creating a sustainable transition area between city and country.
- The redevelopment and future-proofing of (cultural-historical) valuable buildings and the demolition of excess and/or unwanted buildings.
