Circular economy and society

Circular Chemelot

Instead of being overtaken by time, Chemelot is doing all it can to keep up with the times. To take a lead by changing. And to secure the balance between society, earth and nature by working in a circular way. They do this by preventing waste and processing used products and materials into new raw materials for new products.

Circular Chemelot

Simply put, Chemelot will soon have the waste of 20 million European households collected elsewhere and processed in such a way that it can be used as raw material. Polluting fossil raw materials such as petroleum and natural gas will then no longer be needed. Chemelot is taking the first steps towards this raw material transition.

Chemelot's ambition is to be Europe's first circular chemical and materials site by 2050. To achieve this goal, a broad alliance of companies, governments and knowledge institutes has been established. They have developed a joint Investment Agenda 2020-2030 and a Circular Economy Action Plan. These plans formulate new perspectives for industry, science and the economy. Of course, taking into account an ultimately cleaner, safer and healthier living environment for surrounding residents. Training programmes focused on circularity also ensure the connection to a strong labour market and offer new job opportunities.
