Strong and healthy communities
Community approach Pottenberg and Nazareth
The Maastricht neighbourhoods of Pottenberg and Nazareth are being revitalised. Not only with contemporary new buildings. But also with attractive lush green areas and a pleasant living environment. With space for encounters and exercise. And with a focus on positive health. With the aim for people to regain control of their own lives. Physically, emotionally and socially.
Resilience is what it's all about. And about collaboration. Collaboration between government, social housing associations, health and welfare agencies as well as with residents. By bringing in different perspectives and complementing each other, a solid foundation is laid for a resilient future of neighbourhoods. After all, public space not only has a functional purpose, but can also be used as a space to strengthen people. Both socially and for positive health. That's why in these neighbourhoods, efforts are made to create central, green and healthy meeting places. Of course with an eye for climate challenges, such as making homes heat-resistant and installing water storage.
Specifically, in Pottenberg, the gatehouse is currently being rebuilt by Woonpunt. This will be completed in 2026. Residents, entrepreneurs and architects are currently also consulting on the design for Terra Cotta Square, which should be ready by the end of May 2025.
In Nazareth, the former school grounds on Kasteel Cartielstraat are being redeveloped. This area should become green and healthy.
